Joost Kolkman, who is particularly active on the cross-border front, is well-established within the food and beverage, retail, IT and education sectors and Michiel van Schooten serves as the group’s go-to for management buy-ins and outs in addition to collaborative agreements; the pair head the practice alongside Luc Habets and TMT specialist, Wouter Helder.

Charles Destrée heads up the banking and finance practice at Lexence, which combines transactional and regulatory expertise to handle a myriad of issues for borrower clients. On the transactional side, Destrée (who is experienced in both domestic and cross-border finance transactions) has a notable focus on real estate finance. Elsewhere, the team is sought after for advice on leveraged and corporate lending transactions. Bas Zandvliet is another key individual.
BANKING AND FINANCE: FINANCIAL SERVICES REGULATORY TIER 3
Lexence‘s finance team is noted for its expertise in regulatory issues, with a particular focus on those concerning investment funds and investment firms, as well as payment services providers. Charles Destrée and Bas Zandvliet are among the key practitioners in the group, which is able to advise clients on matters such as business expansions in the Netherlands, acquisitions of regulated businesses and restructurings, as well as regulatory issues associated with setting up investment funds. In addition to acting for clients on a standalone basis, the firm works closely with international law firms in this space.
CONSTRUCTION TIER 3
The real estate, construction and development team at Lexence handles a range of construction and real estate matters. It handles residential and commercial projects and acts for large developers, contractors, lenders and private equity parties. Bob Bekker heads the team and is recommended for transactions, large-scale area developments and litigation.
ENVIRONMENT AND PLANNING TIER 3
Lexence is well known in the market for its strong real estate practice and it frequently handles the zoning, planning and environmental aspects of large development projects. The practice group undertakes both contentious and non-contentious work, including planning permission; soil, air and water quality-issues; matters pertaining to land rights and litigation. The team is led by public law specialist Michael Klijnstra who advises on environmental permits and liability, compliance and enforcement matters.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION: COMMERCIAL LITIGATION TIER 4
The Lexence litigation team offers ‘top-notch service and razor-sharp knowledge on commercial litigation’. The team is well known for commercial and corporate litigation and is active in the energy, IT, media, financial services and real estate sectors. Timo Jansen co-heads the team and is recommended for contractual disputes and professional liability cases, while Bram Thomas Craemer , who also co-heads the team, handles commercial disputes.
