Michiel van Schooten is gespecialiseerd in fusies en overnames, private equitytransacties, management MBO's en MBI's en de structurering van allerhande samenwerkingsverbanden. Hij voert vennootschapsrechtelijke procedures en adviseert bij aandeelhoudersgeschillen. 
 
Sinds 1998 is Michiel werkzaam bij Lexence. Van 2008 tot en met 2011 was hij executive board member van Meritas Law Firms Worldwide. Michiel was eerder verbonden aan Houthoff Buruma (Amsterdam en Londen) en Baker & McKenzie. Na zijn studie Nederlands recht aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam is Michiel in 1989 beëdigd als advocaat.
 
Michiel is voorzitter van de Raad van Toezicht van Het Compagnietheater en bestuurslid bij de Willem Meindert de Hoop Stichting en de Remé Art Foundation.
